Dave’s Not Here, Man

No good excuse for not posting in so long. Plenty of lousy excuses. Let’s blame it on writers block.

Writer’s block… it’s like bull blindness, but with a keyboard.

The Language of Darts

I had several important goals when I first began this blog waaaay on back… two weeks ago, I believe. I’ve forgotten what most of them were, but one that I didn’t forget was the desire to publish the most comprehensive online collection of darts lingo to be found on this or any other internet. Like any sport, darts has it’s fair share of jargon, some of it known universally, (even in Alabama,) and quite a bit that’s developed on a more local level. I posted something to this effect on the old blog. I talked about the phrases folks use when corking, or deciding who throws first in a game of darts. I named nearly a dozen ways to say it and that was without doing any real research.

So that’s a project I’ve started this week and since I expect it may take me awhile to get the first version up, I went ahead and put together a list of basic dart terms for now. Once I get the big list up, I’ll post an email addy for anyone wishing to add to it. Should be interesting to learn the many names that players around the world have for the double ones, just as an example.

Dartdave.com is the Former Good Darts Blog

Perhaps you’re amongst the multitude* of surfers who found your way here via my “Good Darts!” blog over at Blogspot. Or maybe you stumbled in here after Googling “Who holds the record for the most beers drank during one game of 501?” However you found the site, I’m glad ya did and hope you enjoy your visit.

There are many well written blogs for the serious dart player out there stuffed with worthy advice on taking that B+ game of yours up to the A level. This isn’t one of them. While anyone is welcome to read and comment here, I expect to write more for the D division folks than the A because that’s where I’ve spent most of my time in my twenty plus years of throwing darts. Which I’m ok with since I noticed long ago that as one goes higher in divisions it tends to become tougher and tougher to simply have fun. For some, the increased intensity of competition makes up for the diminution of fun, and that’s fine for them. But while I enjoy the rush of a good darts match as much as most, to me it still comes down to whether I’m having fun. Yeah, it’s generally more fun to win than lose, but if you base your enjoyment of the game solely on your win-loss record then you’re likely to be playing in a bad mood about half the time.

Anyway, there’s alot to do to get this new blog up and running, so back to work. Gotta throw darts for about an hour to get the creative juices flowing. Yep, work, work, work, but somebody has to do it!

* – For purposes of this post, “multitude” refers to a number somewhere betweeen 13 and 15.
